General Overview

Answer: Hashchats (#chats) is a collaborative AI messaging platform designed to transform how people interact with artificial intelligence by making it a shared, social experience. Unlike traditional AI tools built for solo use, Hashchats integrates AI directly into group chats and leverages a crowdsourced hashtag system to simplify prompt engineering. This allows individuals and teams to access community-tested prompts, collaborate in real time, and get better results from AI together.

Answer: Whether working solo or in a group, Hashchats helps you get better results through multi-model AI integration, smart prompt suggestions, and a collaborative environment. With both public and private hashtags, you can discover or build prompts tailored to your needs.

Answer: Hashchats brings together private AI chats, direct messages, and group chats into one platform. You can interact with AI one-on-one, summon AI in group conversations by toggling @ai, and apply hashtags to instantly run optimized prompts. The platform automatically selects the best AI model and configurations behind the scenes based on your prompt and AI model tier.

Answer: No. Hashchats does not use your data to train any AI models. Hashchats also does not use any AI services or API providers that use user data for model training.

Answer: Yes, you can sign up with a free account and use Hashchats with our mobile app, available on both iOS and Android, as well as our web app.

Answer: Hashchats works on the web and is compatible with both desktop and mobile browsers.

It also has native mobile apps for iOS and Android. The iOS app works on most iPhones and iPads, and the Android app works on most Android smartphones and tablets.

Free Plan

Answer: Hashchats offers a free tier with limited AI usage so new users can explore the platform and try out its features. Free users can participate in group chats, view AI responses to pro users' requests, and use a limited amount of AI until they have used up their free credits. To unlock much higher AI limits with included credits and optional pay-per-use for heavy usage, you can upgrade to a Pro subscription.

Note that free users cannot upgrade to a subscription directly through the mobile apps. To purchase a Pro Plan, you must use the Hashchats Web App.

Answer: Yes, free users can continue using Hashchats after their credits are used up. You can still chat with friends and colleagues in DMs or group chats without limits, but you won't be able to summon AI yourself. However, you can still see AI responses when Pro users toggle @ai in group chats.

Answer: You can always check your remaining free usage balance from your Account Management page. Free usage availability and expiry windows depend on your account status, so use that page as the source of truth for your current balance.

Answer: We have automatic systems in place to detect spam-like behavior i.e. cases where the same device or the same individual attempts to sign up multiple times. If flagged, accounts may not receive any free credits at signup. This process is automated and there are no exceptions. We do this to keep things fair for everyone and to grow responsibly.

Pro Plan

Answer: The Pro plan costs $20 a month, billed in USD, with a seamless transition to a pay-per-use plan for any usage beyond the included allocation.

Answer: The $20/month Pro subscription includes everything available to free users, plus $20 in AI usage credits each month to access AI-specific features. These features include private AI chats, group collaboration with the ability to summon AI whenever needed, and a real-time AI usage summary. This means you can generate Text, Images, Video, and Audio using AI, up to a total of $20 each month. After that, pay-per-use pricing applies for the rest of the billing period.

Note: Our Text AI's Advanced tier can automatically select reasoning or search models when it determines that your prompt requires deeper thinking (e.g., complex inquiries) or searching the web for more up-to-date information. These include internal "thinking" or "reasoning" steps as well as webpage content as context, which are part of the token usage. You won't see these tokens generate, but they help make responses smarter and more accurate.

Note: Our Audio AI's Music tier can automatically choose to generate a song between 10 seconds all the way to 5 minutes. For the time being, all AI-generated audio will count as 10 seconds when it comes to pricing (i.e. whether you generate a 5 minute song or 30 second song, you'll only be charged for 10 seconds of audio per song.). This is subject to change at anytime.

Answer: Once you exceed your $20 in included usage, you'll automatically transition to pay-per-use billing at the same rates. AI usage is tracked in real time and shown in your usage summary on the Account Management page. Any overages are automatically billed in your next billing cycle.

Answer: You can check your real-time usage summary anytime on the Account Management page. It provides a breakdown of your text, image, video, and audio usage for the current billing period.

Answer: Tokens are units of text that Hashchats' AI processes, roughly equivalent to pieces of words. For English text, you can estimate:

  • 1 token ≈ 4 characters
  • 1 token ≈ ¾ words
  • 100 tokens ≈ 75 words
For example, 1-2 sentences are about 30 tokens, and a paragraph is around 100 tokens. Token counts vary by language (e.g., "Cómo estás" in Spanish is 5 tokens for 10 characters). To calculate the exact token usage for your prompts, use OpenAI's Interactive Tokenizer Tool, which shows how text is split into tokens. Note that tokenization may differ slightly depending on the AI model used.

Answer: Yes, you can cancel your Pro subscription plan anytime through one of the following options:

  • Billing Portal (Web App): Go to your Account Management page on the web app, select Manage Subscription, and cancel via Stripe.
  • Account Deletion: On your Account Management page, choose Delete Account to permanently remove all data and cancel your subscription.
Note: Deleting your account is irreversible and will result in the loss of all associated data.

Answer: We accept all major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Buy Now, Pay Later options (e.g., Affirm, AfterPay, Klarna) via secure Stripe payments.

Answer: We don't offer refunds for canceled subscriptions. If you're facing technical issues, reach out to [email protected], and we'll help resolve them.

Answer: Subscription checkout and subscription management are currently available on the Hashchats Web App. On mobile, you can still use your account and AI features based on your current plan.

Private Chats

Answer: Tap New Chat, select your preferred AI model and tier, toggle @ai, and type your message. You can invite people to convert the conversation into a 1-on-1 or group chat with people anytime.

Answer: From the AI tab, select the More button on a chat and choose Delete Chat. When you're inside a chat, you can also tap the chat name and select Delete Chat to delete it.

If you delete a chat, all messages and media within the chat will be deleted forever.

Chats with multiple people cannot be deleted but can be exited at any time. Deleting a private AI chat affects only you and exiting a multi-participant chat doesn't delete it for others.

Answer: You can convert an AI chat into a temporary chat to keep it out of your regular chat history. Temporary chats are automatically cleaned up after about 24 hours of inactivity.

Chats with People

Answer: Open a chat, then tap Add People. You can:

  • Add existing Hashchats contacts directly.
  • Copy an invite link to share anywhere. Invite links are short-lived (about 24 hours), and you can always generate a new one.
  • Send email invites from inside the app.
  • Show a QR code for nearby people to scan.
  • On iOS/Android, invite phone contacts with SMS or email after granting contacts permission.

If someone opens your invite link while signed out, Hashchats will guide them through sign-in and bring them back to the chat.

Once someone joins, they can view the full chat history and start participating immediately.

Answer: Group chats support up to 100 participants. Any pro user (or free user with AI credits) in the group can toggle @ai to bring AI into the conversation, enabling real-time assistance for everyone. Free users can participate in the chat and view AI responses, but their ability to interact directly with the AI is limited. This makes collaboration with AI seamless in team settings.

Answer: Yes, but only if you are the chat creator (admin by default) or have been transferred the chat admin status. To remove a participant as a chat admin:
  1. Open the chat and tap the "More" menu.
  2. Tap the chat name OR select "Chat Participants".
  3. Tap the "More" option next to the person you want to remove.
  4. Select "Remove Participant".

Answer: Each chat can only have one admin. By default, the chat creator is the admin. To transfer admin status:
  1. Open the chat and tap the "More" menu.
  2. Tap the chat name OR select "Chat Participants".
  3. Tap the "More" option next to the person you want to make admin.
  4. Select "Transfer Admin".

Answer: Chats with multiple participants cannot be deleted, but you can leave them at any time. From the People tab, select the More button on a chat and choose Exit Chat. When you're inside a chat, you can also tap the chat name and select Exit Chat to leave it.

When you exit a chat, all other participants will remain, and the chat's message history will stay visible to them.

If you are the last remaining participant in a chat, exiting it will automatically delete the chat as well.

Answer: Yes. From either the chat list or chat options, you can mute or unmute people chats anytime. Muting stops regular chat notifications for that chat, while direct mentions can still alert you.

Answer: Yes. You can pin important chats so they stay at the top of your list. Pinning is personal to your account, and you can pin up to 10 chats per tab.

Answer: Yes. In chat options, open Advanced Options and choose Auto-Translate Messages. Translation is set per user, per chat, and applies to new incoming messages.

Answer: Yes. In chat options, open Advanced Options and choose Auto-Delete Messages. You can set it to none, 12 hours, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.

Answer: When you have multiple unread messages, Hashchats can show an Unread button and a Summary button. The summary gives you a quick AI recap of unread messages so you can catch up faster.

Chat Messages

Answer: To reply to a message on mobile, simply swipe the message from right to left. On the web, hover over the message for a moment, then click the reply icon to respond.

Answer: To forward a message on mobile, simply double-tap a message and then select the chat to forward it to. On the web, hover over the message for a moment, click the forward icon, and then select the chat to forward the message to.

Answer: You can only share media (photos, videos, audio, and files) on mobile by tapping the share icons. On the web, sharing outside of Hashchats is disabled by default but you can always download media.

Answer: To download a message's text on mobile, tap a message and then tap the download icon. On the web, hover over the message for a moment, then click the download icon. You can then download it as plain-text or markdown format.

To download media (photos, videos, audio, files) on the web or mobile, tap the download icon to download it.

Answer: On mobile, swipe the message from left to right to see a list of viewers (with reactions, if any). On the web, hover over the message and click the eye icon to view the list of viewers and reactions.

Answer: When @ai is off, you can attach files, images, videos and audio using the attachment icon. You can send GIFs using the GIF button, and share links by simply adding them to your message text.

When @ai is on:

  1. Text AI: Upload up to 8 files, images, videos, or audio, plus any links. All inputs will be used to generate text.
  2. Image AI: You can attach up to 8 images only. Other file types are not supported in this mode.
  3. Video AI: You can attach only 1 image. Videos, audio, and files are not supported in this mode.
  4. Audio AI: You cannot attach any files, images, videos, audio, or links in this mode.

Answer: Yes. Tap the record button to record a voice message and send it. Voice messages are automatically transcribed, and you can edit the transcription or attach images, videos, or files along with the voice message.

Answer: You can attach up to 8 attachments in any combination of images, videos, audio, or files. Each attachment can be up to 32MB. Images and videos may be optimized before storage. Large files can be reduced to fit under 32MB, but they will be rejected if the optimized version still exceeds the limit.

For message lengths, a maximum of 128K characters is allowed when @ai is off. For Text AI, the maximum message length is also 128K characters. For image, video, or audio generation, the maximum allowed message length is 8K characters.

Answer: You can edit your own non-AI text message for up to 15 minutes after sending it. Open the message menu and select Edit Message.

Mentions and attachments (photos, videos, audio, or files) cannot be edited or replaced. Push notifications already delivered to other participants will not be updated.

Messages sent with @ai on cannot be edited.

Answer: You can delete your own messages sent while @ai is off by opening the message menu and selecting Delete Message.

Deleting a message removes it from the chat, but any push notifications that were already delivered to other participants will not be removed.

Messages sent while @ai is on cannot be deleted.

Answer: Yes. Open chat options and choose Search Messages to find messages by keywords. Tap any result to jump directly to that part of the conversation.

Answer: Yes. You can pin or unpin messages from the message actions. If a chat has pinned messages, you'll also see a pinned-messages shortcut in the chat header to quickly browse them.

Answer: Yes. In chat options, tap Media & Files to browse shared photos, videos, audios, and files in one place.

Answer: Yes. When @ai is off, the attachment menu includes Poll / Survey and Location Pin so you can share decisions and places inside the chat.

Answer: On web, pressing Enter sends your message. Press Shift + Enter to add a new line without sending.

Answer: Yes. On web, you can paste images from your clipboard and drag-and-drop files into the composer. Standard attachment and size limits still apply.

Using AI in Chats

Answer: Yes. Hashchats supports all text, image, video, audio (songs) generation. Based on your prompt, the platform automatically selects the best model and AI configurations behind the scenes.

Answer: An AI-generated message is any response generated by Hashchats' AI—text, image, video, or audio—sent in either private chats or people chats.

Answer: When Text AI is used, Hashchats includes the last 20 messages with full content as context.

If those 20 messages are already full, Hashchats can also prepend pinned messages as additional context.

For image, video, and audio generation, message history is ignored; only the prompt (including hashtags) is used.

Answer: When you reply with @ai, Hashchats only uses the replied-to message as context. Hashchats prioritizes the replied-to message over the broader message history.

  • Text AI: Uses all media/text in the replied-to message.
  • Image AI: Edits images; uses text as prompt; ignores audio/video/links.
  • Video AI: Uses first image only or text as prompt; ignores others.
  • Audio AI: Ignores all content of the replied-to message.

Answer: Hashchats automatically selects the most advanced and suitable model for your task—whether text, search, image, video, or audio generation.

Answer: Yes. Hashchats can automatically detect what you're trying to create and switch modes accordingly. You can manually override this by selecting a model, which pauses auto-switching until the next session.

Answer: Temporary Chat mode lets you keep an AI conversation out of your regular chat history. Temporary chats are automatically deleted after about 24 hours of inactivity.

Answer: Hashchats includes a personal media library where you can browse your AI-generated photos, videos, and audios.

Hashtags & Prompt Engineering

Answer: Hashchats supports public and private hashtags. Public hashtags are shared prompts created by users and ranked through community voting. Private hashtags are visible only to you and are ideal for personal or project-specific tasks. Hashtags make prompting easier and more efficient.

Answer: From the Home page, tap New Hashtag. Choose a model, add your prompt and a short description, and then select if it's public or private. If you want the hashtag to stay active for the entire chat (e.g. having a chat with a famous person), so you or others don't have to keep searching for and selecting the hashtag, simply turn on the Is Conversational toggle. If Is Conversational is off, you'll also see an option to turn on Search Enabled for text-based hashtags that need real-time searches, like top 10 news updates. Once created, you can reuse your hashtag anytime to use the prompt without retyping it.

Answer: When you select the @ai toggle, the #tag button will appear, where you can search for hashtags. Trending hashtags are displayed first by default. You can use the search bar at the top to find specific hashtags based on keywords, topics, or categories.

Answer: Public hashtags are ranked based on how often they're used and how helpful the community finds the responses. Popular and effective hashtags naturally rise to the top through upvotes and frequent use.

Answer: Yes, while users only see a hashtag's description, you can report any hashtag that generates content violating our community guidelines—such as hate speech, discrimination, or explicit material. Reported hashtags are reviewed and removed if necessary.

Answer: Universal Hashtags let you set a default hashtag per AI type (Text, Image, Video, Audio) for a chat. Once set, Hashchats automatically applies them when that model type is used.

Contacts Management

Answer: Your contact list shows people you've interacted with in DMs or groups. On iOS/Android, you can also grant contacts permission to invite people from your phone contacts via SMS or email. Hashchats does not auto-sync your phonebook into your account's contacts list.

Answer: Removing a contact deletes both users from each other's Contacts lists. To reconnect, a new invite must be sent and accepted. Once a contact is removed, you or the ex-contact cannot start a conversation with each other UNLESS you join via an invitation link.

Answer: Blocking and removing a contact will delete both you and your contact from each other's contact lists. You will also be removed from all chats where the removed contact is a participant.

Answer: Yes. On mobile, you can invite phone contacts through SMS or email from the Add People flow. They'll receive your chat invitation link and can join after signing in.

Account & Security

Answer: Hashchats is built with security and privacy at its core. We use secure authentication methods including Google, Apple, and email/password login, along with standard encryption and strict access controls. Your conversations are protected at every step, and group chats are invite-only to ensure that access is always intentional and secure.

Answer: Your data is securely stored, and private chats with AI can be deleted at any time through your AI chats tab. After deletion, your data is permanently removed unless required to be retained by law.

Answer: Go to your Account Management page and tap Delete Account. This action is permanent and will immediately remove all your data and log you out.

Answer: When you delete your Hashchats account, all personal information like your name, profile photo, and account data is permanently removed. However, any messages or media (like photos or videos) that you shared in direct messages or group chats will remain visible to recipients as part of their chat history. This helps preserve the conversation flow for others but your name and photo will be anonymized. If you'd like specific messages or files deleted, please remove them manually before deleting your account.

Answer: You can sign in with email/password, Google, or Apple. Hashchats also supports password reset, email verification, and changing your email/password from account settings.

Answer: No. You can upload your own photo, or Hashchats can generate one for your profile during setup.

Answer: Yes. On mobile, Account Management includes quick controls for camera, microphone, location, contacts, and notifications.

Support

Answer: The app interface is currently in English. AI responses are multilingual, and people chats also support per-user auto-translation to many languages.
