How do I ask AI to add numbered notes to an image?

Reviewed October 17, 2026

Keep @ai on and Text selected, attach still images or reply to their message, then ask AI to annotate them.

Answer

For example, ask “Annotate these images and point out the areas to improve.” On phone browsers and mobile apps, attach images with Upload Photos; in Text mode on desktop browsers, use Upload Files. The Text composer currently accepts up to eight attachments. Annotation can process a supported source message with up to 20 still images, at most 12 MB each.

Only AI creates the notes; there is no manual pin or comment editor. If placement is uncertain, Hashchats explains the limitation without adding markers. Each image has its own numbered notes, also included in the answer text. Reply to the annotated image with another request to change them.

Annotations use actual Text tokens, with no Image generation fee. Viewing notes, toggling them, zooming, navigating and ordinary forwarding add no AI usage. Forwarded images keep annotations when their pixels are unchanged.

Scheduled Text annotation requests use fixed image sources and create a fresh answer each time. Missing or changed sources fail rather than being silently replaced.
