Can AI create a downloadable code or data file?

Reviewed October 17, 2026

With @ai on and Text selected, explicitly request a downloadable file, such as “Save three sample products as inventory.json” or “Create a Python file named example.py.” Ordinary requests to show code remain chat answers.

Answer

JSON, JSONL, YAML, XML, HTML and common source-code extensions are supported. You receive one file and a short explanation, rather than multiple files or an archive. The limit is 180,000 UTF-8 bytes and the generation’s output-token budget.

Syntax checks for JSON, JSONL, YAML and XML do not prove that an application is correct. YAML aliases, explicit tags and multiple documents are unsupported, as are XML DTDs and external entities. HTML downloads as source, without an in-message preview. Generated code is never executed.

Use the file tile to save on web, phone browsers, iOS or Android. In groups the file follows normal chat visibility and uses the requester’s Text allowance. There is no separate media-generation or download fee.
