How do I search messages inside a chat?

Reviewed October 18, 2026

Open Chat Options → Search Messages to search that conversation.

Answer

  1. Enter your search text.
  2. Choose a result to jump to its message.

You can also open a person’s profile card from their name, avatar or mention, then choose Messages on a small screen or Search Messages on a larger screen. This searches their display name as ordinary text; it does not filter by sender identity.

Results can include completed AI answers and eligible human or forwarded messages. Search covers visible text and tables, checklist rows, quiz titles and public scores, deck titles, calendar and contact cards, link descriptions, and attachment names or short cached excerpts. It excludes extracted webpage bodies, full hidden file contents and inner quiz or flashcard answers. Results remain limited by the available index and search range.

Results list the closest matches first. Search compares each message's wording and meaning, including the Auto-Translate text you see in your receiving language, and tolerates small typos, partial words and differently formatted numbers, links or codes.

Preparing a search service when you open search, GIFs, Clips or Pick a Hashtag does not run a search or use AI credit. If preparation fails, you can still search.
