Answer
Unread jumps to the last message you had read. Summary immediately marks the messages through the latest one at tap time as read, then creates a quick AI recap. For very large catch-ups, the recap covers the newest 100 unread messages while older unread messages are still marked as read. Both buttons disappear when tapped. If Unread cannot open its target, the catch-up actions return so you can retry. Unread summaries allow 50 free generation attempts per account per UTC day. If this summary or another summary is already generating, or the daily limit is reached, the existing error notification explains that reason. Other failures use a general error message. The recap uses the same basic per-message details as recent AI context and message search, including expanded checklist items, visible card information, public quiz scores, link descriptions, Maps addresses and calendar notes. Extracted webpage bodies and full hidden artifact contents are excluded. It does not analyze every attachment again or fetch everyone’s private quiz progress.
