How do I get a shortlist of places on Maps?

Reviewed October 17, 2026

With @ai on and Text selected, ask for restaurants, attractions, meeting places, stores, services or ordered stops.

Answer

Eligible answers can show 2–10 numbered destination cards. Without a count, the usual target is six relevant places; fewer can appear if fewer are verified. Tap a card to open Google Maps. Cards do not optimize routes or track anyone. Ask for text only or no pins to omit them.

Named places do not need device location permission. Nearby requests can use your device location or approximate network area. New cards prefer available place photos, with map images as a fallback. Saved previews are reused rather than replaced each time you open a message.

Maps links remain usable if previews fail, the message is forwarded or an older app cannot show cards. A complete shortlist may use link-preview cards if some map identities cannot be matched. Review citations do not add destination cards. Actual Text input and output tokens apply, with no separate card charge or minimum. This works in private and People chats on web and native mobile.
