How do I turn a pasted image link into an attachment?

Reviewed October 17, 2026

Paste one public HTTPS image URL ending in .jpg, .jpeg, .png or .webp into an empty composer or an otherwise blank line. The pasted content must contain only that URL. A loading attachment appears and the URL is removed from the text; nothing sends automatically.

Answer

Prose, quoted or typed links, multiple URLs, inline links, GIFs, SVGs and extensionless links stay as text. Standard mode and attachment limits apply; Audio accepts no attachments. Supported imports are static images up to 32 MiB and 40 million pixels, with at most 16,384 pixels per side, converted to a JPEG up to 1024 pixels per side.

To keep the link as text, press Cmd+Z on Mac or Ctrl+Z on another hardware keyboard immediately after pasting, before typing more. Once attached, use the image’s remove control. If import fails, the exact source link returns automatically while preserving your other text. An interrupted import restores the link without downloading again.

The source stays with its original chat draft. This works through supported Paste controls on web, iOS, Android and Scheduled Messages where images are accepted. Imports add no AI charge; a later AI request has its usual charges. Older clients may still offer Insert Image Link.
