When do reactions, replies and poll votes notify me?

Reviewed October 17, 2026

Updated builds can show personal unread activity when someone reacts to your message or first votes in your poll. For an AI response you requested, supported first reactions, direct replies and first poll votes can identify activity on that response. Hashchats remains its author.

Answer

The personal preview appears when it is newer than the latest chat message. Reading the latest messages, viewing the notification’s target or using Summary clears only the activity you observed. Newer unread messages remain. Historical reactions and older AI responses without requester attribution do not gain new alerts.

Your own actions do not alert you. Changing a reaction refreshes an unread preview; removing it clears pending activity. Re-adding it does not send another alert. Changing a vote or viewing results does not send another requester alert. A direct reply uses the ordinary message notification once.

Muting suppresses these engagement alerts and clears their pending previews; unmuting does not replay them. Mentions keep their usual mute exception. Push alerts may combine activity over ten seconds and are limited to one per minute and five per hour per chat. Personal previews work without push permission. These alerts add no AI charge.
